App name availability checker
See whether the name you have in mind is already on the App Store and on Google Play, before you design a logo around it.
What the check tells you
Already in use
An app carries this exact name. You can often still use it, but you will share every search result with them.
Clear, but crowded
Nothing uses the name on its own, though other apps start with it or use it before a subtitle.
Nothing found
No exact or near match came back on that store. Apple or Google still has the final say when you create the app record.
Common questions
How do I check if an app name is available on the App Store or Google Play?
Type the name into the field above. It searches the App Store and Google Play and reports, for each store separately, whether any app already uses that exact name, plus apps that use it as part of a longer name. A name is often free on one store and taken on the other, which is why the two answers are not merged. The check is free and needs no account.
Can two apps have the same name on the App Store or Google Play?
Yes, on both stores. Apple does not enforce globally unique display names, and duplicate names do exist on the App Store. App Store Connect checks the name you request when you create the app record, so a name that looks free here can still be refused, and a name already in use is not always blocked. Google Play identifies an app by its package name rather than its title, so several listings can share one title.
Does this reserve the name for me?
No. It only reports what a store search returns right now. You reserve a name by creating the app record in App Store Connect or Google Play Console, and Apple and Google each make their own final decision.
Is a free name also free of trademarks?
No. Trademark rights are separate from App Store listings, and a name nobody has published can still belong to somebody. Search your national trademark register, and take legal advice if the name matters commercially.
Once the name is settled, watch how the app performs
The same store data that answers this question also carries per-country star ratings, rating counts and category chart positions, for your app or a competitor's, across 175 App Store storefronts and 176 Google Play locations. Any check of 5 countries or fewer is free and needs no account.
